Counterfeit Certifications

Hi folks,

A friend of mine just showed me that there are services
that will sell a person a counterfeit MCP or other. How
can an employer or customer of a professional's services
validate that the claimant's certificate is authentic?

Just another disturbing reminder that not all people are
honest.

Regards,
John

Re: Counterfeit Certifications

I presume your friend has reported this to Microsoft at
tctips@microsoft.com. If you check a person MCP card against their driver's
license, that should demonstrate their certification is valid. This will not
not demonstrate how the person passed their tests.

Re: Counterfeit Certifications

I'll email tctips right away Tom.

I'm very disappointed at how little validation is
available. I would have expected that Microsoft would be
hosting a website where an employer could type in a
certificate number and be able to get information on the
card holder.

You and Beoweolf seem to believe that the MCP card with
the hologram on it is the only proof available. I
understand that all sorts of documents are forged in this
world and that the MCP is trivial compared to an MDs
licence but I expected more from a technology leader.
Let's see what tctips tells me.

I have a hunch that the service my friend told me about
will simply issue a forged card to the purchaser.

Re: Counterfeit Certifications

You can have the individual login to the MCP secure site and show
you his transcript--this shows a list of all tests passed and all
certifications held.

Re: Counterfeit Certifications

John,
You seem to make a valid point...however, just from the nature of your
original post, would it be prudent to provide the world at large access to
known good MCSE/MCSA/MCP Id numbers? You only mention one of the several
verifying documents and procedures available for legitimate verification.
Two independent forms of ID; drivers license, credit card, Birth
certificate, SSAN, etc. are all valid documentation of identity. Any job
candidate should have no problem producing corroborating documents.
As stated in this forum before, I believe MS is correct to protect the
database of MCSE. I get enough "Spam" and unwanted solicitations already,
providing access to such a "targeted" audience is a marketers dream. It's
also a pirate/ID thief's access to "Passport" and other ancillary
information tags. I'm sure, if you really look at the extent of information
this would release, you too would agree that this is a prudent move.
Microsoft, in the recent past, has been taken through the wringer for lack
of security, not protecting information. You advocate releasing more?

Re: Counterfeit Certifications

Thanks Greta, you've made some wonderful points; I
understand that it would be smart to protect this
information as you say.

Tom's last post satisfied my core concern and I think that
his idea would be enough of a test of a candidate's claim.

Exclamation Re: Counterfeit Certifications

You are now ready to share your qualifications with your employer, friends, and colleagues. Provide them with your Transcript ID (809218) and the Access Code (mcp02468), and direct them to https://mcp.microsoft.com/authentic...lidatemcp.aspx. Remember, you can change your Access Code at any time. If you decide to stop sharing your transcript, simply change your Access Code at https://mcp.microsoft.com/mcp/tools...references.aspx and refrain from sharing the new Access Code with anyone.

Hope this information is enough.. :-) check out MCP Earn money
