It's all about supply and demand. As long as the supply remains constant and the demand increases, the price will go up. Lessen our demand and then the price will drop!
How do we cut our demand? That is the real question!

That is the problem, you have to drive to work. You can cut back some on your driving but somethings (most) you can't. I think people are just cutting back on other things such as in retail. And no, the job pay does not go up at the same time.
I also think what's going to happen is that people are going to go in debt and finally will not be able to pay thier bill. Wonder what will happen to the ecomomy then?
Do I smell a depression coming on?
Notice I didn't say recession, but depression!!!!!

Yes you have to get to work. I've examined how I could cut some of my driving. For example, we don't just drive into town on a whim anymore. We buy all our groceries at once and only buy what we didn't get in teh big trip when it's on the way to something else.
Can you participate in a Share-A-Ride program? Is there public transport available, where you could drive to a depot or stop point, and then use the public transport? (If it adds 30 minutes to your commute, that doesn't make it unavailable. It may make it unfeasable, but not unavailable.) Is there someone in your neighborhood or area who goes into the same general area you go to? And maybe you could either take a bus or walk from that stop to your place, or vice versa.
If you live in a metro area, consider using a bike for things that are not time-sensitive. Or maybe drive into a metro area, park in a secured parking lot and take your bike through town to work, using the gas only for higway commute and not the start-and-stop of metro driving. One nearby metro area has bike racks on teh front of all the metro buses! So the bus doesn't go everywhere you need to go, bike to the bus stop, get close to your destination, bike to there from the dropoff point.
There IS NO public transport from my area into the metro area I work in, and it's 50 miles one way. I'm looking for an econobox I can pay cash for to replace the Jeep on weekdays, saving the Jeep for times when I need the extra room, like sports and camping trip;but having a truck available, we may not need the Jeep at all. We also live about 12 miles from town, so biking into town is not a quick trip; it's an all-day event. We condense trips. Not one trip for the post office, and one trip to McD's, and one trip to the store, and one trip to Granny's; it's one trip to do it all, or whatever doesn't get done waits for the next trip or till it's on the way to or from something else.
And don't overlook your own driving habits; do you rush up to a red light? Why--are you in a hurry to stop? Try coasting when you can. Try starting more gently. Try starting from work ten to fifteen minutes earlier so you don't have to have the gas pedal to the floor all the way in to work. It really does make a difference. Keep your car tuned up and maintained.
These are little things. There's no one big thing that will solve the problem, but lots of little things. And if everyone did several little things, it would make a big impact. BUT--a lot of people won't do several little things. Don't let that keep you from doing them, because you can still have some impact on your pockets. I can't keep other people from using more gas, but I can keep MYSELF from using more gas. And if you do the same, then that's two of us. And maybe three of us, then maybe four of us...

I agree with all that and am already practicing some of it!
The BIG problem is that the gas people keep raising the price, it doesn't even level off, just keeps going up. Their sucking us dry, they get rich while rest of us get poor!
But I guess if there are a few out there with money only and the rest of us working people with out any, guess that's all that matters!
My bet is a depression FEB 2008 if not sooner, any other takers? Humm! Maybe I should start a poll! When will it be?
Or, here's an idea, let's start lowering the price of gas so we don't have a depression, how does that sound?

So if you predict a depression, how are you preparing for it?
This sounds like a good time to start putting up some canned and dried goods, eh? Building up your physical health so that you can do some hard work if you can't drive to the job you have now? Co-op a garden on someone's unused vacant lot or in containers in your yard?
People survived the depression; it wasn't pleasant, but my parents lived through it and became survivors because of it.
I don't know particularly about a depression, I feel like we're about to see runaway inflation, and then the feds can start lowering interest rates again. We weren't ready to build or buy a house when the rates were at 4%, and then they went up, like we knew they would. Now we're ready and we're nto sure what the rest of the economy holds.
I do know one thing: I'm not a single-job person. Technology isn't the only thing I can do for a living. I can grow and sell food; I can work in a restaurant at any position. I can do secretarial work. I can clean houses and wash cars. I can tutor. And I can do freelance computer repair. Those are just a few of the things I can do if I suddenly don't have the job I have now. It's never too soon to start thinking along those lines.

HAHA @ you lot
Well, I'm from Saudi Arabia studying in Notts, and I'm quite shocked looking at the gas prices your retailers have put. We pay £0.15 per litre and drive big american cars. Shocking!!! how 15 pence p.l fuel is sold at 96p to you lot.
How about you people become hippies?? They told me that they don't even flush the toilet frequently and crap in their garden during the summer time to save the mother earth and pocket.

Well its controlled by who owns the white House
This is a Fact that the vice president is in bed with Haliberton and Bush family are from Old Drilling families. The two together make a good team and use the bull war to take the matter off oil money that they need and not really doing anything about our home country, which is in bad shape.
We need a to FIRE them all and get a group of fifth graders to run the country,at least they would have more common sence and care about the US of A.
